This is what my rifle currently looks like. |
Mosin Nagants also known to many as the moist nugget. They are old military rifles that were built in mass numbers and now many people can pick one up for a little over $100. It is a much sot after rifle and it is gaining much speed these days because of its affordability and reliability. If you are an owner of a Mosin Nagant you own a piece of history, however it makes a better range gun then a show gun. In that case, accessories help the rifle to reach it maximum potential as a range gun.
I have found a few places that sell accessories but some of them are stores and are not always as close as I would want. Recently I found that Amazon sells tons of accessories to trick out the old-school rifle which makes it very convenient.
I have added a few things to my rifle since I got it about a year ago. I never really liked the old wood stock with the steel butt plate. The butt and the hand grip on the old wood stock just did not make it an easy gun to take to the range. Obviously the gun was not made for comfort, it was made for war and that shows. Since I am not a soldier and not in a time of war I decided to make the gun a bit more comfortable.
I started by changing the stock, I went from the 70 year old wood stock to a modern ATI Mosin Nagant 7.62x54R Monte Carlo Stock
. I did not get mine from Amazon and I paid the price, literally. The new stock's extra half inch butt pad makes a world of difference. However, if you do not want to get rid of the old school look, a one inch butt pad can be bought. After I bought the new stock I still wanted more. I go shooting as often as I can and I obviously still have iron sights so I really wanted a bi-pod. As I was searching for some I found the NcStar Precision Grade Bipod Fullsize 3 Adapters (ABPGF)
. I love this bi-pod it is great to have the 3 different options to put it on your rifle. I was not sure how it all worked but I really did not want to lose the ability to have my sling. With this bi-pod I was able to attach it to the barrel, the front sling stud or a rail. I did not have a rail so I chose to have it on my barrel. It is a great bi-pod it is super sturdy and it is a great to have many adjustable heights.
I also bought an Allen Company Buttstock Shell Holder and Pouch
. It was a great purchase I am able to hold five shells on the outside and 20 shells in stripper clips in the pouch. It was easy to put on and it also adds quite a bit of cushion for the cheek rest. Mosin Nagant M44 M91/30 5 per pouch Stripper clip
an be bought for a pretty cheap price. They are not a a marvel of modern engineering but once you get used to them they can become pretty useful.
I also bought a bore laser so I can sight it in when I get a scope.7.62 x 54R Caliber Cartridge Laser Bore Sighter for Mosin Nagant Rifles Boresighter
There are also a few things you can do to get a scope on your rifle. First if you are quite handy with tools and you can work on a gun yourself then I would recommend getting the ATI Mosin Nagant Scope Mount w/Bolt Handle
. This requires drilling into the bore of your rifle and I would not reccomend it if you are not capable. The next thing you could do is get a UTG Mosin Nagant Tri-Rail Mount
or a single rail Mosin Nagant Weaver Rail Type Scout Rifle Scope Mount For 91/30 M38 M44 M39
that would attach and replace the rear sight of the rifle. However these should only be used in conjunction with a long-eye relief scope or red dot sight.
My next purchase will probably be the scope mount and either be brave and drill it myself or try and find a gun smith to do it for cheap. After that I will buy a scope and that will probably be it. Many people say its a waste of money to upgrade a Mosin Nagant but I beg to differ. It makes a good rifle better. Plus if you ever get a better rifle many of the things can be transferred onto the new one. The bi pod, the shell holder and the scope can all be transferred but until then it just helps make the rifle even better.
